Spring has arrived! Bring on the sunshine, extra daylight hours and the beginning of the BBQ and outdoor entertaining season. It’s also the perfect time to make sure timber decks, balconies, handrails and even outdoor timber furniture is looking fresh and rejuvinated before being exposed to another harsh summer period.
Whether it’s painted, stained or an oil finish, giving exterior timber a fresh coat during spring will ensure your outdoor entertaining space is looking as good as new when family and friends head over for the first BBQ of the season.

Before you recoat your deck or other timber surfaces, make sure you’ve sufficiently cleaned the entire surface. If you can access a high pressure cleaner this will make the job extremely thorough and efficient, you can even give your other non timber surfaces a good clean such as concrete, tiles and pavers. The next step, and an important one, is to ensure you’ve given timber surfaces a really good sanding, this will ensure your fresh coat has good adhesion and the timber surface is well sealed and protected. If you’re not sure whether to stick with the same natural oil look, go for a darker stain or change things up this season with a coat of paint, here’s a few pics from our previous outdoor timber work to help with inspiration.
